Dr.
C. and I took off from New York and flew to London for a few days before we
pick up an Aston Martin and join a Classic Car driving tour. Chasing away jet lag in London is easy, there
is so much to do.
After arrival, we got
to our hotel and checked in, then it was time to eat, so we had dinner at Wheelers’
which was in the hotel, and a restaurant from bad boy chef Marco Pierre
White. Food was good, I wouldn’t call it
memorable, but then again, we were pretty gorked from jet lag.
The
next day we set off on the tube, and toured the Imperial War Museum’s ChurchillWar Rooms, which I highly recommend. Dr.
C. is a history junkie, and I go along for the ride. He reads every plaque, I get what I need and
move on.
A young boy touring with his family asked his mother what the black thing was on the desk--it's a rotary telephone |
Years ago we went to a nighttime
lecture in the war rooms, but didn’t get to tour the places where the war was
managed. It was fascinating, and if you
have the opportunity I highly recommend it.
We spent the rest of the day walking around enjoying the sights.
That night we attended Hamilton at the
Victoria Palace theater. It was an
amazing performance by everyone, and the theater has undergone an incredible
restoration. Just FYI, tickets for the same performance in NYC were $875, and we spent L200. Actually cheaper to see it in London.
Saturday
we decided to be real tourists and took a boat ride down the Thames to Greenwich,
and back.

That
night we had dinner with old friends that we’d met years ago at EnotecaProperzio who live here. They took us to
Tower 42 for drinks where the views were awesome.
We went to dinner at Rules, the oldest restaurant in London. The food is old school, as
well as the service, and we had an amazing meal, lots of conversation and
laughing about our countries problems.
We rolled out of dinner and back to our hotel to get packed up so we could pick up our Aston Martin DB7 for the driving tour of Kent the next day.
